Imaging
The imaging services at St. Mark’s Medical Center rival or exceed those in major medical centers in Houston and Austin.
With the exception of mammography, the Imaging Department at St. Mark's Medical Center is completely digital. All new equipment includes CT, MRI, routine x-ray, fluoroscopy, bone densitometry, C-arm unit, mobile/portable x-ray unit, ultrasound with color doppler and the Picture Archival Communication System (PACS), which provides physicians with the capability of accessing and transferring images to any medical facility in the world.
The Imaging Department features a Siemens 64-slice CT that enables technologists to produce 4D images of the heart and allows physicians to observe vascular structures in great detail. Standard examinations of the chest, abdomen and pelvis are enhanced on this unit. Virtual colonoscopy will become an available procedure. St. Mark's Medical Center is the first rural hospital in America with this high quality CT.
A new 1.5 Tesla MRI unit will provide the highest quality imaging at a faster rate than current MRIs with less discomfort to patients due to the shorter depth. A new mammography unit will produce the lowest amount of radiation possible, therefore making it even safer for our patients.
Nuclear stress testing also is available at St. Mark’s Medical Center.
